Florence Y'alls News Release
KALAMAZOO, MI - Kalamazoo put a stop to the Florence Freedom's winning streak with a 9-6 win Saturday night at Homer Stryker Field.
Florence had won nine straight games entering game two of the series with the Kings. The Freedom tried to rally late with Kalamazoo leading 9-3 entering the ninth, but the comeback fell three runs shy when Zach Goldberg flew out to right with two men aboard.
Chuck Tiffany (4-2) suffered the set back on the mound for the Freedom. It was the left-hander's first loss in his last five starts. Tiffany loaded up the bases in the third with nobody out and with a run already in, tossed his last pitch which plunked Tim Brown to drive in the King's third run of the game. In the end, Tiffany went 2 1/3 innings and allowed six runs.
Erold Andrus' cut a 6-0 Kings lead in half with a one-out, three-run homer to right. It was Andrus' eighth of the season to make it 6-3.
But Kalamazoo came right back and put up three more runs over the next two innings against the Freedom's bullpen. Brad Hough made his fourth appearance for Florence from the pen and surrendered his first two runs of the season. Andy Clark went the final five innings, striking out seven Kings.
Amos Ramon had a big day at the plate for the Kings as the third basemen went 2-4 with three RBIs and two of the Kings five doubles. Joe Ramos finished 3-4 with two runs scored and a RBI for Kalamazoo.
Tim Grogan, Ryan Basham and Justin Pickett all had two hits for the Freedom.
The loss dropped the Freedom to 46-43 and 5.5 games back of the final wild card birth with seven games to play. Florence wraps up their season series with the Kings Sunday at 2:05 p.m. with Everett Saul (11-7) making the start for the Freedom. Kalamazoo now leads the season series 9-2.
