Wild Day at Werner Park Features Two Walk-Off, Comebacks Wins

OMAHA, Neb. - Trailing in the final inning of both games the Omaha Storm Chasers (49-55) swept a pair with the Oklahoma City RedHawks (55-49) Tuesday, with Anthony Seratelli singling home the game-winning run in the 11th inning of the completion of the June 8th suspended game and Irving Falu doubling in two runs in the bottom of the seventh in the nightcap. Both game-winning hits came with two outs, and the two wins pulls Omaha to within 1.0 game of the American Northern Division lead.

In the first game of the day, the Storm Chasers were faced with a 3-2 deficit entering the bottom of the ninth when Quintin Berry worked a leadoff walk against Oklahoma City closer Josh Zeid, and after he was sacrificed in to scoring position Christian Colon lined a single up the middle to score the tying run. Omaha reliever Will Smith shut down the RedHawks in the two extra frames, then with two outs and runners on second and first in the 11th, Seratelli singled down the left field line to give the Chasers only their second win of the season when trailing after eight innings.

Despite a dominant outing from right-hander Brian Sanches, who allowed only two runs (one earned) over seven innings in his longest start of the season and the first Omaha complete game of 2013, the Chasers were down to their final out down 2-1 of the seven-inning second game. Willy Taveras was issued a two-out walk then Max Ramirez notched only the second pinch hit of the year for Omaha, and both advanced on a Rhiner Cruz wild pitch. Irving Falu then stepped to the plate and lifted a double over the head of RedHawks leftfielder Robbie Grossman to seal the second walk-off win of the day.

Sanches has allowed only four earned runs in his last 31.1 innings and the Storm Chasers have won eight of his ten starts this season, the best record of any starter for Omaha this season. The complete game for the veteran righty was his first since he notched two all the way back in the 2000 season when he was a prospect in the Kansas City system with the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Sanches has allowed more than two runs in only two of his ten starts this season and in none of his outings lasting four innings or more (starts and relief).

Danny Duffy and Oklahoma City right-hander Asher Wojciechowski both turned in solid performances in the first game of the day, with Duffy allowing no hits in his first three innings of work and only two hits while striking out six in his five innings, with his only mistake being a three-run homer by Jimmy Paredes. Wojciechowski limited the Omaha offense to only one run in his 7.1 innings of work, and has only allowed that one run in two starts against the Storm Chasers totaling 14.1 innings.

The Storm Chasers will look to ride the momentum of the two wins as they send out left-hander Justin Marks (4-10, 5.72), who has won three of his last four starts after losing seven consecutive outings. Marks will face off with RedHawks righty Brad Peacock (6-2, 2.59) with first pitch set for 12:05 p.m.
