Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks look to shake of yesterday's tough losses as they take on the Storm Chasers for the third time in 20 hours at 12:05 p.m. It's the last time the RedHawks will play a day game until the final game of the regular season on September 2.

Yesterday: The RedHawks suffered a pair of heartbreaking defeats, falling twice at Werner Park after leading in the final inning in each game. In the first game the Storm Chasers trailed 3-2 in the ninth, but Christian Colon sent the game to extra innings with a game-tying single. Two innings later Omaha secured a victory after a game-winning single by Anthony Seratelli with two outs in the 11th. It was more of the same in the nightcap, as the RedHawks again led by a run in the final inning. Omaha had none on and two out and managed to score twice after being down to their final strike on a few occasions. Irving Falu doubled off the wall in left field to plate two runs and notch a 3-2 win. At the plate for the RedHawks, Jimmy Paredes hit a three-run homer and Brandon Laird recorded four hits, including two doubles. Starting pitchers Asher Wojciechowski and Bobby Doran combined to allow only two runs over 12.2 IP.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Brad Peacock heads to the mound, looking to keep his recent roll alive...Peacock has won each of his last four starts and has turned in seven straight quality starts, allowing more than one earned run just once. He's posted a 1.23 ERA and held opponents to a .197 average. Over that time Peacock is 5-0 and the RedHawks have won all seven of those games...Last Friday in Memphis he led the way to a win in game one of a doubleheader, holding Memphis to one run and five hits over 6.2 innings. He fanned 10 batters, setting a new season high, and did not allow a walk...Over his past four starts, Peacock has an impressive 30-to-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio...He's been very effective on the road, going 6-1 with a 1.90 ERA in seven starts...In his previous start against Omaha on June 23, Peacock tossed six innings and allowed five runs, seven hits, and six walks, all three of which are highs during his time the RedHawks. However only two of those runs were earned, and he did not figure in the decision...Today marks his first career outing at Werner Park.

Against the Storm Chasers: 2013: 7-7 2012: 6-10 All-time: 117-105 In OMA: 57-53

Six of the first 14 meetings of the season have been decided by one run, with Omaha winning four of those games... In six contests at Werner Park, the RedHawks have scored only 17 runs. The teams have combined for just two home runs in those six games as well, with one coming from each side...They split six games during their most recent series in Bricktown, June 22-25. The series was played in four days and featured two doubleheaders...Seven of Brandon Laird's 13 hits have gone for extra bases, and he has collected 8 RBI...Oklahoma City has outscored the Storm Chasers, 57-42...During the 2012 season series, Omaha averaged 6.9 runs per game, but so far in 2013 they have scored a total of 42 runs (3.0 RPG) and are batting .233...The RedHawks lead the all-time series, 117-105, but Omaha entered 2013 having won four of the last five season series against Oklahoma City.

Late Inning Drama: The RedHawks now have five losses when leading after eight innings, which is the most in the PCL and tied for the most in all of the Minors along with Double-A Jackson, High-A San Jose, and Low-A Greensboro. All the losses have occurred since June 6, and they are just 16-5 when leading after eight over that stretch. They have now lost six games when leading in the final inning, and there have been two additional games in which they bounced back and won after the opposition tied the game in the final inning. Over the past eight games overall, the team is 4-4 with three losses when occurring after leading in the final inning. Yesterday's first game also marked the third time this season Asher Wojciechowski was in line for a win before a late lead slipped away.

Werner Park Woes: Including both games yesterday, the RedHawks have lost four times in the past two seasons after leading in the final inning at Werner Park. The Storm Chasers have five walk-off wins in the teams' last 13 meetings in Omaha.

Mound Magic: During the current road trip the pitching staff has posted a 1.91 ERA (12 ER/56.2 IP). The starters have been particularly effective, combining for a 1.74 ERA (8 ER/41.1 IP) and never allowing more than two earned runs in a game.

A Healthy Inheritance: Despite some other struggles from the bullpen yesterday, the team continued to be highly effective when inheriting runners, allowing none of six to score. RedHawks relievers have allowed only four the last 30 inherited runners to score, including none of the last 19. The RedHawks have allowed only 34 percent of inherited runners to score throughout the season.

Inside the Park: The RedHawks pitching staff has not allowed a homer in a season-best six-straight games (seven including the recently suspended/completed game). The last home run by an opposing player was by New Orleans' Jake Smolinksi in the first inning during the final game before the break. Including their recent game that was initially suspended on June 8 and resumed on July 23, they have not allowed a homer over the past 66 innings. The 80 dingers they've surrendered this season are second-least in the PCL.

The Laird Up There: Brandon Laird has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 13-for-36 (.361) with six extra-base hits and seven RBIs. He paces the team with 48 RBI, 26 doubles, and 48 runs scored while tied for the team lead with 11 home runs.

Rockin' Robbie: Robbie Grossman is 9-for-19 during the current road trip and has reached base safely at least once in six of seven games. He is batting .377 in July after hitting just .170 in June.

Double Threat: George Springer stole another base yesterday, bringing his season total up to 32. He is also second overall in the Minors with 27 homers, trailing only Ryan Rua of Low-A Hickory, who has 28. Springer is in striking distance of becoming the first player in the Minors to go 30/30 since Grant Desme in 2009.
