Memphis Redbirds News Release
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Kolten Wong scored the game-winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Memphis Redbirds a 3-2 last at-bat victory over the Round Rock Express on Wednesday night at AutoZone Park.
In his first start in 15 days, starting pitcher Michael Wacha allowed one run on two hits while fanning eight in six dominant innings. The right-hander tossed 87 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Two of the three Round Rock hits on the night were game-tying, solo home runs by Jim Adduci.
First baseman Jamie Romak went 2-for-3 with his 20th home run and a stolen base. Shortstop Greg Garcia also added two hits.
Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning as Chad Huffman provided the club with its first extra-base hit in 34 innings with a double down the third base line. After Romak singled, Adron Chambers hit a sacrifice fly to center.
Wacha retired the first 15 straight Round Rock batters to begin the game with seven strikeouts until Adduci went yard on a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall to begin the sixth inning. The game-tying blast was his 13th of the season.
Romak gave the Redbirds a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth with his 20th home run, a line drive just over the left field wall.
Scott Richmond (3-4) took the loss, allowing three runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings.
Victor Marte worked one perfect frame. Keith Butler (1-2) blew a save and backed into a win, surrendering one run in two innings for his first Triple-A win.
The Redbirds and Express wrap up their four-game series at 7:05 pm CT on Thursday night at AutoZone Park. Left-hander Tyler Lyons (5-1, 3.26) will start the homestand finale against Round Rock righty Jake Brigham (3-1, 3.98).
