Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Orioles catcher Matt Wieters will rehab on Monday night at Nymeo Field when the Keys play the Lynchburg Hillcats at 7:00 p.m. The former Keys catcher is expected to be behind the plate as he continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery. Monday will mark Wieters' first appearance in a Frederick uniform since 2008, his first year of professional baseball.

Wieters has played two games during his rehab assignment, both with the Double-A Bowie Baysox. Catching both games, Wieters is 2-for-9 with an RBI and a run scored. His most recent game came on Thursday night, when he finished 0-for-5 with an RBI. The 29-year-old is expected to catch one more game for the Baysox on Saturday night.

Selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2007 draft, Wieters hit .345 with 15 home runs and 40 RBIs over 69 games with the Keys in 2008, his first professional assignment. In his first game with the orange and black, he hit two home runs and drove in three RBIs. Named a Carolina League midseason all-star, Wieters was promoted to Bowie in late-June that year and went on to receive the Brooks Robinson Award, given to the most outstanding player in the Orioles system. He was also recognized as Baseball America's Player of the Year.

Wieters becomes the second member of the Orioles to rehab with the Keys this season. Outfielder David Lough played one game in Frederick on April 12 as he recovered from a left hamstring injury.

The Frederick Keys begin a four-game series with the Lynchburg Hillcats on Saturday night. Left-hander Luis Gonzalez (3-3, 7.15) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed right-hander Michael Peoples (3-3, 7.23). First pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. from Nymeo Field and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com. It is Family Fitness Weekend at the ballpark presented by JoJos Taphouse, Premiere Dental Arts and Toothman Orthodontics. For tickets fans can contact the Keys at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
