Bowling Green, KY - A banner night for Ryan Wiegand helped the Bowling Green Hot Rods hand the Clinton LumberKings a 7-2 loss in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Wiegand went 2-for-4 with a two-run blast off the base of the scoreboard in right-center in the first inning and added a three-run clout off the top of the scoreboard in the fourth. Ty Morrison added an RBI double in the second inning and Gabe Cohen also lifted a sacrifice fly to center in the third as the Hot Rods scored in each of the first four frames.

Right-hander Taylor Lewis (L, 3-1) surrendered all seven runs as earned on 11 hits. He stepped in for scheduled starter Tyler Blandford, who was a late scratch after suffering an undisclosed injury during his warm-up tosses.

On offense, the LumberKings struggled mightily against left-hander Kyle Lobstein. The 2008 second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Rays did not allow a hit over his first 6.0 innings. That trend would end as Vinnie Catricala doubled down the left-field line and scored on a double by James Jones in the seventh.

Lobstein (W, 2-3) finished with a run on two hits and five strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Right-hander Deivis Mavarez (S, 3) worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh and a two-on, no-out jam in the ninth. He allowed a run on three hits for the three-inning save.

Jones lifted a solo home run to right-center field in the ninth inning to finish 2-for-4 with two RBI. No other Clinton batter had more than one hit. Right-hander Daniel Cooper turned in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief for the Kings.

The loss was just the fourth in the last 18 games for Clinton, who remains 1.5 games behind Quad Cities for second in the West and now 4.5 games behind division leader Cedar Rapids.

Morrison led all hitters with a 3-for-4 game for the Hot Rods, including an RBI and a run scored. Bowling Green has won three-straight.

The LumberKings (30-23) continue the series with the Hot Rods (21-30) tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. Left-hander Jon Hesketh (2-4, 5.80) makes his 10th start of the season for Clinton. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at 1390kcln.com.
