Trout and Jimenez Homer as Kernels Beat Lugnuts, 5-4

Lansing, MI - Mike Trout and Jose Jimenez both homered as the Cedar Rapids Kernels won their seventh game in a row, 5-4, over the Lansing Lugnuts on Tuesday night at Cooley Stadium in Lansing. Trout finished the game 2-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases and Jimenez went 3-4 with 2 RBI.

The Kernels held off a Lansing rally in the bottom of the ninth as the Lugnuts scored three unearned runs off reliever David Carpenter. Ryan Goins hit a three run double to cut the Kernels lead to 5-4, but was thrown out at home on a fielder's choice to end the game.

Kernels starter Fabio Martinez (3-1) allowed a run on two hits, walked seven and struck out eight over six innings for the win. Lansing starter Ryan Tepera (5-2) allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits over 7 IP in taking the loss. Jean Segura went 2-4 with an RBI and Jeremy Cruz went 1-4 with a run scored.
