Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps squandered scoring opportunities in a 2-1 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday at Parkview Field. Dean Anna drove in Fort Wayne's only run.
The bottom four hitters in the TinCaps' lineup (Edinson Rincon, Jon Alia, Rymer Liriano and Anna) combined to go 8-for-14, but Fort Wayne struggled to come up with the big hit.
The Timber Rattlers jumped ahead in the top of the 3rd when Cutter Dykstra hammered a solo homer to left-center to make it 1-0.
In the bottom of the 3rd, Alia stroked a leadoff single and two batters later, Anna doubled to the wall in center to tie the game.
The TinCaps threatened in the bottom of the 5th, loading the bases with one out, but a pair of strikeouts squelched the rally.
Wisconsin came right back in the top of the 6th with a two-out rally. Cameron Garfield grounded an 0-2 pitch up the middle for a single, then Pete Fatse doubled to left-center to put the Rattlers ahead, 2-1.
Fort Wayne got a leadoff double in the bottom of the 7th, but failed to score. The TinCaps had runners at first and second with one out in the 9th, but after a strikeout, a runner was picked off second base to end the game.
Wisconsin RHP Kyle Heckathorn (3-3) was the winning pitcher, dealing seven strong innings while Fort Wayne LHP Nick Greenwood (2-3) took the loss despite firing six solid frames. LHP Jon Pokorny worked two scoreless innings to pick up his first save of the year.
The TinCaps dropped to 27-26. Wisconsin upped its record to 19-33.
The TinCaps and Timber Rattlers (Class-A Milwaukee Brewers) continue the three-game series Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (4-2) goes to the mound against Wisconsin RHP Nick Bucci (3-1).
