Widell Earns First Pro Win Behind Four-Run Third

Bristol, Virginia - After 14 professional games, 13 of them starts, Ryley Widell earned his first pro win in his 15th profession outing, pitching 5.2 innings in Bristol and helping Elizabethton to a 4-3 win.

Widell allowed three runs on six hits, while striking out four and held the Bristol Pirates scoreless in the first three innings. He surrendered a single run in the fourth and two more with two outs in the sixth, but also retired eight in a row at one point between the first and fourth innings.

Ryan Shreve took over out of the bullpen in the sixth and held Bristol to just two hits in the final 3.1 innings, not allowing any walks or runs while striking out four. A double play to end the game led to Shreve's second save of the season.

Elizabethton was outhit by Bristol 8-7, with the only runs of the game for the Twins coming in the third inning. Willie Joe Garry Jr. was hit by a pitch and Ruben Santana walked to lead off the inning, then with two outs Matt Wallner tripled and Max Smith homered to bring home two runs each.

Shortstop Will Holland, in the lineup for the second straight night reached base in all four of his plate appearances, drawing two walks and connecting for a single, also getting hit by a pitch.

Smith was the only E-Twin to collect two hits, with a second inning single in addition to his third inning homer.

Elizabethton continues its road trip Monday with three games against the Burlington Royals, all with 6:30 p.m. first pitches.
