Kingsport Axmen News Release
Kingsport, TN - The Kingsport Mets had an opportunity to take two of three in the first segement of the Big Apple-achian Rivalry Series, but the Yankees were able to rally against the bullpen for an 11-5 victory Sunday evening.
Brett Baty, the 2019 New York Mets' First-Round pick homered in the bottom of the fourth to not only get Kingsport on the board, but to also break up a perfect game bid.
The homer was the third of the season for Baty, and the first one to the pull side of the field.
In his next at bat, Baty tied the game at three apiece with lined double down the left field line plating Kennie Taylor and Francisco Alvarez.
The Mets would take a short-lived 4-3 lead as Jaylen Palmer would follow Baty with an RBI-single.
The Yankees would however get off the mat in a major way, striking for four runs in each of the next two frames to blow past Kingsport.
Eight Yankee hitters tallied base hits, with Roberto Chirinos leading the way with four RBIs.
The Mets are observing a league-wide off day tomorrow before traveling to Bluefield for a three-game series beginning Tuesday evening.
Kingsport will be home for a six-game home stand starting Friday night as they will play host to the Burlington Royals Friday through Sunday, then host the Elizabethton Twins Monday through Wednesday.
