Wichita Wind Surge News Release
TULSA, OK - Wind Surge batters were walked a season record breaking 13 times in tonight's ball game. This proved to be the deciding factor and helped Wichita defeat Tulsa 8-2 despite the Drillers out hitting the Surge six hits to five.
Wichita drove in the first run of the game in the top of the fourth inning. Patrick Winkel hit an RBI single into left field that gave the Surge the lead.
Alerick Solarie extended the Wind Surge lead in the top of the fifth. He crushed a ball over the left field wall for a solo home run.
Tulsa got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Ismael Alcantara hit a line drive RBI single to center field. Austin Gauthier then hit a ground ball that was able to drive in another run for the Drillers and tied the game.
The Wind Surge were able to take the lead back in the top of the sixth. Drillers pitching walked four straight Wind Surge batters that forced a run to score and then Will Holland hit a two RBI single into center field.
Alex Isola hit a solo home run to kick off the top of the seventh inning. The Surge then added two more runs in the inning. First off a wild pitch where Winkel was able to reach home, and then Holland hit his third RBI of the game on a single to third base.
Chad Donato got his first start in a month and pitched four solid innings, gave up two hits and gave up no runs. He also struck out six batters. Hunter McMahon earned the win off his two and two-thirds innings pitched where he allowed no runs off no hits and struck out four batters.
Kyle Hurt was the starting pitcher for Tulsa. He also pitched four innings, gave up two runs on two hits and struck out six batters as well. Ben Harris was credited with the loss.
The Wichita Wind Surge improve to (5-4),(33-44) and the Tulsa Drillers fall to (3-6),(33-45). Tulsa leads the Coors Light Propeller Series 11-4 with nine games to play.
NOTES: DaShawn Keirsey Jr. got his 27th stolen base on the season tonight. The Wind Surge snap their four-game losing streak with tonight's win.
