Tulsa Drillers News Release
TULSA, OK- The Tulsa Drillers set a new season high in a pitching category that most teams do not want to set. The Drillers held the Wichita Wind Surge to five hits, but Tulsa's pitching staff set a new season high by walking 13 batters in Tulsa's 8-2 loss on Thursday night at ONEOK Field.
The win was Wichita's first this week and their fourth in the Coors Light Propeller Series. Tulsa leads the season series 11-4 and needs two more wins to claim the Propeller Trophy for the second consecutive year.
Pitching controlled the game for the first three innings as both starting pitchers kept the game scoreless for the first three innings.
The Wind Surge scored the night's first run in the fourth as the inning began with DaShwan Keirsey's lead-off walk. Keirsey immediately stole second base and reached third on a ground out. One batter later, Partick Winkel recorded the first hit against Hurt, scoring Keirsey and giving the Wind Surge a 1-0 lead.
Hurt's second and final hit allowed was a lead-off home run in the fifth inning that gave Wichita a 2-0 lead.
For the first four innings, the Drillers offense was held to just two hits by Wind Surge starting pitcher Chad Donato. In the fifth, Wichita turned to its bullpen as Jordan Brink took the mound, and the Drillers quickly loaded the bases on two singles and a walk. Tulsa tied the game on consecutive batters as Ismael Alcantara singled to center, and a force out at second base made the score 2-2.
In the sixth, the Surge scored three more runs with the benefit of just one hit. The inning began with Wichita loading the bases on three walks and taking the lead on a fourth walk. Will Holland's single plated two more baserunners to put Wichita ahead 5-2.
Another three runs were scored for the Wind Surge on a lead-off home run, a wild pitch and a single in the seventh inning.
