Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

WICHITA, Kan. - The Wichita Wingnuts scored five times in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back against the Sioux Falls Pheasants, who lost 9-4 on Saturday night. Rain halted play after the sixth inning, and the game was called as official.

Sioux Falls fell to 54-27 overall on the year and 22-11 in the second half. Wichita pulled to two games behind the first-place Pheasants.

Trailing 1-0, the Wingnuts rallied for five two-out runs. Josh Horn tied the game on an infield single. Ryan Patterson followed with a high chopper toward third, resulting in Trevor Lawhorn's throwing error that allowed a second run to score. Wichita added an unearned run in the sixth for a 6-1 lead.

Sioux Falls pulled within two runs on a pair of unearned runs in the fourth and a Beau Torbert solo home run in the fifth inning, his 21st of the year. The titanic shot cleared the left-center field scoreboard, which is 100 feet tall.

Ryan Patterson put the game away in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run home run, his 12th of the year. Four of those home runs have come against Sioux Falls.

Ryan Shaver (7-1) took his first loss of the year, allowing all nine runs - eight earned - on 12 hits in five innings. Bubba O'Donnell (3-0) earned his third victory of the year, yielding four runs - two earned - in 5 1/3 innings.

The three-game series with the Wichita Wingnuts continues at 5:05 p.m. Sunday, August 15. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230 AM KWSN and www.kwsn.com.
