El Paso Diablos News Release
El Paso, TX - Pensacola evened up their series with the Diablos winning 10-5 at Cohen Stadium on Saturday night. The Pelicans built up a big early cushion and were able to coast to victory. The loss officially eliminates the Diablos from any playoff contention. El Paso has lost 14 out of their last 15, but still has a chance to win the series on Sunday.
The Pelicans started quickly and never slowed down. They scored two in the first inning on a Javier Brito two run home run and added one more in the second inning to get a 3-0 lead. The Diablos came back in the second inning with two runs on a two out two RBI single by Adam Deleo. The Pelicans took control of the game after that scoring seven runs over the next three innings to build a 10-2 lead. El Paso scored two runs in the sixth inning one on a Jeff Vincent double and another on a Jonathan Reynoso run scoring single. They added their final run in the seventh inning on a Arnoldo Ponce single.
Jesse Estrada (0-1), in his first start at home, had a rough night. The Pelicans showed little respect to the El Paso native as they pounded him for 10 runs, nine of which were earned on ten hits and four walks. The Diablos got great work from their bull pen which did not allow a run over their five innings of work. They allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out six. Bryan Rembisz (4-3) picked up his first win on the road this season and his second against El Paso. He was given the big lead to work with and pitched seven inning allowing five runs on 11 hits.
Everyone in the Diablos order reached base with eight out of the nine batters collecting at least one hit. Jonathan Reynoso led the Diablos going 2-4 with a double and one RBI. Rico Santana, Arnoldo Ponce, and Bryon Smith joined Reynoso in having two hits in the game. The Diablos managed 13 hits in the game including four doubles.
The Diablos will try for the series win on Sunday. Lefthander Dustin Birosak (0-1, 7.72) will toe the rubber for the Diablos against Jared Gothreaux (8-7, 4.43). It is Quartermania which means 25 cent hot dogs and ice cream sandwiches. Game time is set for 6:05. Fans can listen in online at www.diablos.com.
