Wichita Wingnuts News Release

Steady rains throughout the night eventually forced the game to be called after the end of the sixth. All nine of the Wingnuts runs were scored with two outs with seven of Wichita's nine starters collecting at least one hit.

Down 1-0 in the bottom of the second, Michael Bell singled up the middle with two outs and no one on base. After Jeff Christy walked, Josh Horn singled up the middle to score Bell with the tying run. Ryan Patterson hit a slow groundball to third that resulted in Trevor Lawhorn's throw bouncing into the outfield. The infield single and error allowed Christy to score the go-ahead run and put runners on second and third. Cesar Suarez ripped a line drive single to left that scored Horn and Patterson and made it 4-1 Wichita. Jorge Cortes capped off the inning with an RBI double to right that traveled all the way to the fence.

The Wingnuts added an unearned run in the third when Pheasants' shortstop Tim Hutting dropped Jeff Christy's groundball with two outs, allowing Raul Gonzalez to score the Wingnuts' sixth run.

The Pheasants pulled within 6-4, scoring two in the fourth and one in the fifth, but Patterson launched a two-out, three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 9-4.

Jorge Delgado extended his hitting streak to 11 games in a row. Bubba O'Donnell improved to 3-0 in three starts with the Wingnuts, allowing two earned runs in 5.1 IP. O'Donnell struck out four, walked five, and allowed four hits. Jacob Wiley worked the final two outs in the top of the sixth. Ryan Shaver took his first loss of the season, allowing all nine runs, eight of which were earned in five innings.

The series continues Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Gabe Medina takes the ball against Sioux Falls' lefty Ryan Rodriguez. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
