Who Ya Gonna Call? 'Hounds Bust Frisco's Streak
July 1, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Midland RockHounds News Release
The Frisco RoughRiders entered Wednesday's game riding a franchise-record 11-game win streak. It took an effort "worthy of the occasion," but the RockHounds ended Frisco's run with a 9-8 victory at Riders Field.
Trailing, 1-0, the 'Hounds scored three times in the fourth and put five more runs on the board in the fifth for an 8-1 lead, only to see the Riders storm all the way back. Frisco scored seven runs, combined, in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to forge an 8-8 tie.
Chase Calabuig doubled to open the top of the eighth and went to third on Mickey McDonald's sacrifice-turned-base-hit bunt. Calabuig would then score what would become the game-winning run on a wild pitch.
Aaron Brown went two scoreless innings for an "old school" save as the RockHounds ended a Frisco win streak that has seen the RoughRiders take control of the Double-A Central South Division.
Devin Foyle's three-run home run gave the RockHounds the lead in the fourth and a solo home run from Nick Allen (See "Kibbles & Bits," below) made the score 4-1 with one out in the top of the fifth. Logan Davidson walked, and Jake Suddleson's second double of the game brought Davidson home.
Jeremy Eierman walked and Jhonny Santos singled to load the bases and back-to-back bases-loaded walks from Foyle and Kyle McCann pushed the lead to 7-1 with the innings' final run scoring on an RBI fielder's choice from Calabuig.
Bubba Thompson had three RBI in Frisco's comeback and Major Leaguer David Dahl (with the Riders on re-hab) added an RBI single. Anderson Tejada capped the come-from-behind effort, tying the game with a two-run single in the seventh.
Kibbles & Bits
Nick Allen went 2-for-4 (solo HR, walk) to extend his hit streak to 15 games. He is hitting precisely .400 (26-65) in the streak and finished just under .400 for the month of June (.393).
Here's some cool perspective. When Nick last left Frisco (May 9), he had gone 2-for-22 (.091) in the season's first series. As June comes to an end, he is now second in the Double-A Central, hitting .340 for the season.
