Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. - In preparation for the Western Hockey League 20-year old cut down deadline this morning, the Brandon Wheat Kings have transferred Tim McGauley to the WHL Injured List and have released 20-year old veteran Quintin Lisoway.

McGauley, who was injured during the Wheat Kings' 2015 Home Opener against Swift Current last month, recently signed an Entry Level Contract with the National Hockey League's Washington Capitals.

The WHL's Eastern Conference Player of the Year in 2014-15, McGauley is coming off an outstanding season that saw him score 42 goals and 105 points.

In 226 career WHL games, the Wilcox, Saskatchewan product has 211 points, including 81 goals.

Lisoway, who has spent the past three seasons in Brandon, he will be available for the WHL's overage cut down draft at 3pm this afternoon. In the event he is not selected, the 5'10" 195 lb Neepawa product is expected to join the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Steinbach Pistons.

Lisoway had nine goals and 20 points in 64 games for the Wheat Kings last season and during his career in Brandon, he has 20 goals and 47 points in 171 games.

"We are proud to have had Quintin as a member of our organization," says Brandon General Manager and Head Coach Kelly McCrimmon. "The ultimate warrior and competitor he had tremendous respect from his teammates and helped every player get better."

"During his time here, he has earned four years of education through the Wheat Kings scholarship which he will take advantage of beginning next year," McCrimmon went on to say. "We wish him the best with his next opportunity."

In addition to McGauley, Brandon's current 20-year olds include defencemen Macoy Erkamps and Colton Waltz and forward Rihards Bukarts.

In other news, the Wheat Kings have had a new face in practice this week. Former AAA Midget Wheat King defenceman James Shearer, who is currently playing for the MJHL Pistons, has been skating with the Western League club for the past two days.

Shearer, who has five goals and 15 points in eleven games with the Pistons this season, scored six goals and 38 points in 48 games with Steinbach during the 2014-15 campaign and was named the MJHL's Rookie of the Year.

A Brandon native, Shearer was previously chosen by Calgary in the ninth round of the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft.
