BOISE, Idaho - Bennett Whitmore tossed seven and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball, helping the Everett Aquasox to a 4-0 victory over the Boise Hawks.
Whitmore enduced 14 groundball outs in his second win of the season, taking a one-hitter into the eighth inning. Boise loaded the bases in the eighth, but Matt Bischoff struck out Rafael Lopez to end the threat.
Everett struck first in the second, taking advantage of a Hawks error to plate a run on an Ethan Paquette RBI single. The Aquasox would plate three in the third, as Patrick Brady clubbed a solo homer, Nathan Melendres rapped an RBI single, with a third run scored on a Hawks error.
Willson Contreras went 3-for-4 in the loss for the Hawks, with reliever Kyler Burke tossing four shutout innings for Boise. Jharmidy DeJesus went 2-for-4 in the win for Everett, who became the first team to win a series in Boise this season.
Both teams have tomorrow off - with the Hawks heading to Vancouver to open an eight-game road swing against the Canadians. Ben Wells will get the call in the opener at Nat Bailey Stadium on Wednesday night at 8:05 p.m. (MT).
