Bears Fall in Road Trip Finale
July 11, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Yakima Bears News Release
The Yakima Bears lost at PK Park to the Eugene Emeralds Monday night by a score of 6-2. The Bears fell in four of five games against the Emeralds and lost seven of eight on the road trip.
The Bears scored a run in the top of the first inning without a hit, as Danny Pulfer was hit by a pitch, advanced on two sacrifice bunts and then scored on a groundout. The Emeralds tied the game with an unearned run in the second inning after Bears starting pitcher Randy Hamrick made an errant throw to first on a pickoff attempt.
After Eugene took the lead with a run in the third, the Bears tied the game in the fifth inning. Pulfer led off the fifth inning with a double and eventually scored on a single by Zach Jones.
Hamrick would exit the game with two outs in the sixth inning after allowing three more runs that put the Emeralds in front 5-2. Eugene would add another run in the seventh inning off of reliever Mike Blake. Hamrick took the loss and is now 0-3 this season. The only other pitcher to take the hill for the Bears was Evan Marshall, who had two strikeouts during a 1-2-3 eighth inning.
The Bears offense combined for 11 hits, with all but one batter recording at least one hit. The offense was led by Pulfer, who went 3-for-4 with a double and both of the runs scored by the Bears.
The Bears are now 7-18 this season. After a day off Tuesday, the Bears start a five-game homestand Wednesday at Yakima County Stadium against the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. Game time is scheduled for 7:05. Right-handed pitchers Brad Wilson of the Bears and Cameron Lamb of the Volcanoes are expected to start Wednesday.
