Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Avista Stadium - Spokane, WA) - The Vancouver Canadians (15-10) pounded out 16 hits including four home runs on Monday afternoon to help top the Spokane Indians (13-12) out at Avista Stadium in front of 3,323 fans.

The Canadians opened the scoring in the top of the 1st inning when 3B Balbino Fuenmayor hit his 2nd home run of the summer off of Spokane starter RHP John Kukuruda giving Vancouver an early 1-0 lead.

Spokane continued their dominance in the bottom of the 1st inning scoring three runs that included a bases-clearing double from LF Trever Adams who cashed in RF Hirotoshi Onaka, 2B Rougned Odor and DH Zach Cone to give the Indians a 3-1 cushion.

Vancouver would cut the lead to just a lone run when 1B Randy Schwartz drew a walk, advanced to second base when LF Steve McQuail was hit-by-a-pitch, moved over to third base on a single from C Pierce Rankin and scored on a sacrifice fly from 2B Jon Berti.

The bottom of the 3rd inning brought the two benches together for the second straight night after Spokane 2B Rougned Odor singled and then slid hard into second base where shortly after being called out exchanged words with Canadians SS Shane Opitz. Shortly after the exchange, the two began throwing punches and both teams met in the middle of the infield for a spirited fight that saw four ejections.

The Indians had RHP Matt West and 2B Rougned Odor tossed from the game as did Vancouver SS Shane Opitz and 2B Jon Berti. The Northwest League has yet to comment or present any further discipline as of Monday night.

Shortly after the game resumed, the Canadians managed five runs in the top of the 4th inning with LF Steve McQuail providing the big blow hitting his 6th home run of the summer to help the Canadians to a 7-4 lead.

Vancouver would continue to pound the baseball as C Pierce Rankin hit his 3rd home run of the summer in the top of the 7th inning and 3B Balbino Fuenmayor hit his second home run of the game, third of the season in the top of the 8th inning to pull away from Spokane who fell to the Canadians 9-6 when all the dust had finally settled.
