Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release

EDINBURG- Craig Hertler scored from second base on a ground out with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the McAllen Thunder a 10-9 victory against Rio Grande Valley at Edinburg Baseball Stadium Wednesday night.

Miguel Alfonzo hit a ground ball to the right of second baseman Fidel Hernandez, who made a diving stop and threw a soft peg to first baseman Bryan Marquez to retire the Thunder's cleanup hitter. But Hertler never stopped at third, and Marquez's throw to the plate was off the mark, allowing the speedy outfielder to score the winning run.

The slowly played game lasted 3:46 and included five errors, two pass balls, ten walks, a wild pitch, three runners thrown out on the basepaths, a hit batsman, and three fly balls misplayed for either hits or errors.

Kurt Houck (2-2) won the game in relief for McAllen (25-40), who tied Abilene for fifth place with the victory. Chad Robinson earned his 10th save.

Ricardo Estevez (0-2) was the losing pitcher for Rio Grande Valley (35-29) despite not allowing an earned run in four relief innings.
