San Rafael Pacifics Struggle Despite Opportunities

August 1, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
San Rafael Pacifics News Release

MAUI - Both the San Rafael Pacifics and the Maui Na Koa Ikaika had their chances for big offensive outbursts on Tuesday night. But while neither could land the big blow, San Rafael was unable to take advantage, falling 3-1 at Iron Maehara Stadium.

San Rafael (27-16) was unable to weather three runs in the first two innings, allowed by starter Jake Rasner, who lost for the first time in 2012. Rasner pitched 6 innings, walked five and struck out three.

Will Wright's groundout in the third yielded the only run for San Rafael, who racked up 10 hits, but stranded eight base runners.

Johnny Woodard (2 for 4), Jon Hurst (2 for 3) and Henry Calderon (2 for 4, run) all had multi-hit games for San Rafael. Outfielder Maikel Jova was 1 for 4 and has hit safely in 41 of 43 games this season for San Rafael. Jova has reached base safely in 42 consecutive games, and has hit in four consecutive games since his 37-game hit streak was snapped on July 26 in Hilo.

Victor Ferrante had up two RBIs on one hit for Maui (22-21), and homered in the second inning, helping erase the frustration of Maui's seven stranded base runners.

San Rafael faces Maui Wednesday at Iron Maehara Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8:35 p.m. PDT. Follow the action on www.Pacificsbaseball.com, watch the game on Game Live, or follow the Pacifics on Twitter.com, @SRPacifics.
