August 1, 2012 - North American League (NAmL)
Fort Worth Cats News Release
Fort Worth third baseman Brandon Jones, second baseman CJ Beatty, and center fielder RJ Harris went yard on Wednesday night but would not be enough to catch up in the Cats' 7-6 loss to the San Angelo Colts at Foster Field.
Jones (14) and Beatty (7) have been familiar names when talking about the long ball and lead all Cats' hitters in that category. Harris' blast was his first of the season. The three hitters combined to hit 6-for-13 with five runs scored and three runs batted in on their respective solo shots.
All three homeruns were hit in the first half of the ballgame and provided Fort Worth starter Blake Parry (3-3) with an early 3-1 lead and through four innings, Parry had only allowed three hits and struck out four Colts. San Angelo would rock Parry in the bottom of the fifth with six runs on five hits, one of which was a homerun for the Colts from right fielder Jason Crosland to put Abilene on top for good.
Colts' starter Mark Willinsky (6-4) got the win despite giving up six runs on ten hits through 6 2/3 innings.
Closer Erik Draxton was able to hold off a ninth inning rally to pick up his 16th save of the season.
With the loss, the Cats' record falls to 36-28 and remain in second place, 3.5 games back of the first place Edinburg Roadrunners.
San Angelo and Fort Worth will face off for the second game of their two game set Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Foster Field.
