Whiteman And Gallo Join Legends Ring of Fame

APPLEBEE'S PARK (Lexington, KY.) - The Lexington Legends announced today that Tommy Whiteman and Mike Gallo have been voted into the Legends Hall of Fame. The induction ceremonies were held on Saturday, August 11th just before the Legends hosted the Charleston RiverDogs.

The ceremonies included the reading of the Hall of Fame plaques, video tributes to the inductees, and the unveiling of Whiteman and Gallo's jersey numbers in the Legends Ring of Fame inside Applebee's Park.

"Mike and Tommy were two of the big reasons why the Legends were so successful in 2001 and 2002," said Legends General Manager Kevin Kulp. "Tommy still holds several career records, and of course Mike made his Major League debut in 2003 with the Astros."

Whiteman holds four different career records, including triples (10) and home runs (28), and was named the SAL player of the week a club record three times. He also shares the club record for consecutive games with a hit with sixteen. Mike Gallo posted a 4-4 record with eight saves in 42 games in 2002 and his stingy 1.83 ERA is the fourth lowest in Legends history. Gallo rapidly advanced through the Houston farm system and made his Major League debut for the Astros on July 2, 2003.

Whiteman and Gallo were selected through a two-part process that began last winter when representatives from our season ticket holders, front office staff, media, and existing Hall of Famers placed ten names on the 2007 ballot. The Legends fans selected Whiteman and Gallo by naming them on 50 percent of the in-stadium and online ballots.

Tommy Whiteman 2001-02

Tommy Whiteman displayed an uncommon blend of powerful offense and near flawless defense at shortstop while playing for the Legends during the 2001 and 2002 seasons. Whiteman helped lead the Legends to the 2001 South Atlantic League Championship while finishing 2nd in the SAL in batting with a .319 batting average. Whiteman was named the SAL player of the week three times and still holds four career batting records including career home runs (28) and career Triples (10). His sixteen game hit streak is tied for the longest in Legends history.

Mike Gallo 2002

Mike Gallo was one of the best relievers in Lexington Legends history. Gallo's knee buckling curve ball helped the Legends win 81 games in the South Atlantic League in 2002. Gallo posted a 4-4 record with eight saves in 42 games and his stingy 1.83 ERA is the fourth lowest in Legends history. Gallo rapidly advanced through the Houston farm system and made his Major League debut for the Astros on July 2, 2003.
