Blair Dances around the Braves for an 11th Hour Sweep

Hickory, NC - The Hickory Crawdads beat the Rome Braves, 6-5, on Saturday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Cameron Blair scored the winning run. After stealing 2nd, a throw that wound up in center by Rome's catcher and a throw from Rome's center fielder that wound up in the 4th row of seats while Blair dashed from 2nd to 3rd, allowed Blair to score the automatic GW run in the 13th inning. With the win, Hickory swept Rome in the 4 game series.

Bobby Kingsbury gave the Crawdads a 1-0 lead in the 4th with an RBI double. Kingsbury struck again with the bases loaded in the 5th. With the bases loaded and the Dads' up 2-0 at the time, Kingsbury drilled a liner down the RF line, clearing the bases and putting Hickory up 5-0.

Rome fought back and eventually tied the score at 5-5 after homeruns from Travis Jones and Danny Brezeale. After Eric Krebs, Chris Castorri, and eventually Dustin Molleken combined for 6 scoreless innings from the 8th through the 13th. Molleken (2-1) earned the win after Blair scored the wining run in the bottom of the 13th. Blair led off the inning with a walk. While Jared Keel squared around to bunt, Blair took off for 2nd. The pitch was outside, C Phillip Britton's throw to 2nd bounced into center. Blair got up, raced over towards 3rd. CF Yohan Silva's throw to 3rd missed 3B Robert Marcial and bounced into the crowd, allowing Blair to automatically score the GW run.

The Crawdads open up a 4 game series at home against Columbus tomorrow night at 6:00. RHP Mike Crotta is scheduled to start for Hickory. All games can be heard live on WMNC 92.1 FM.
