West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BELOIT, WI - Wilkin Ramirez had the only Whitecaps hit before the ninth inning, but it was enough to provide the winning margin in a 3-2 victory at Beloit. With the win, West Michigan takes three out of four in the series, with another four game series against the Snappers to begin Saturday at Fifth Third Ballpark. Snappers starting pitcher Kyle Aselton walked the first three batters in the third inning. Two scored on a sacrifice fly to right by Nick McIntyre when a relay throw to third from shortstop Trevor Plouffe went into the Beloit dugout. Chris Robinson scored to tie the game, 2-2. Two batters later, Ramirez singled to drive in Clete Thomas and give the Whitecaps a 3-2 lead. The only other West Michigan hit came off the bat of Josh Lee with one out in the ninth. Jeff Hahn made his first start for West Michigan and in the second inning, allowed his first earned run as a professional. Hahn was drafted in the 35th round by Detroit in June and had pitched 22.2 innings without allowing an earned run for Oneonta of the short-season New York-Penn League. Hahn allowed two runs in the second, but only one was earned, thanks to an error by shortstop Brent Dlugach, which allowed the second run to score. The right hander went six innings on the mound to earn the win. Aselton walked five and struck out nine in six innings on the hill for Beloit, but took the loss. Kevin Ardoin and Anthony Tomey combined to hold the lead in the seventh and eighth. Kevin Whalen struck out the side in the bottom of the ninth to earn his third save in just his third appearance for West Michigan.
