FOX CITIES STADIUM -- On an ugly, cold, rainy, Friday night, the West Michigan Whitecaps took an early 5-0 lead and beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-2. Andy Baldwin gave up just one run on six hits to get the victory. Kurt Piantek knocked in a pair of runs and Eric Rodland had three hits and an RBI for the Whitecaps.

West Michigan (17-24) scored two runs in the top of the first. RBI singles by Piantek and Luis Sabino put the Caps in front 2-0.

West Michigan added three runs in the top of the third. Piantek knocked in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly. A Kody Kirkland RBI double made it 4-0. The final run of the third came in on a fielder's choice. The Whitecaps scored another run in the sixth on an Rodland RBI single. Timber Rattler starting pitcher Nibaldo Acosta gave up eleven hits and six runs in 5-1/3 innings to take the loss.

The Rattlers (18-23) got on the scoreboard in the seventh inning. Brent Metheny's two-out RBI double scored Evel Bastida. An RBI ground out by Chris Colton accounted for the final run.

Game three of the series is Saturday night at Fox Cities Stadium. Eric O'Flaherty (1-2, 4.81ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. West Michigan plans to send Jordan Tata (1-4, 4.28 ERA) to the hill. Game time is 6:35pm.
