CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa â The Kernels are going to the dogs this weekend.
And the dogs are coming to the Kernels.
The Kernels welcome Skyy Dogs USA and Rockin' Ray to Veterans Memorial Stadium to entertain during games Saturday and Sunday against the Kane County Cougars. Skyy Dogs USA are Frisbee fetchin' group of canines rescued from animal shelters. They perform during inning breaks throughout the game.
The ballpark will belong to the dogs on Sunday when the Kernels host their second "Bark in the Park.'' Pet owners will be able to bring their pups to the stadium to see a game from the Lawn section. Cost is $5 for the pet owner and $5 for the pup. Proceeds will be donated to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.
There will be a doggie parade on the field before Sunday's game, weather permitting.
Before purchasing a ticket for a pet, dog owners must complete an owner/pet information sheet and sign the required documents. They are available online at www.kernels.com or at the Veterans Memorial Stadium ticket office.
Saturday's game time is at 5 p.m. Gates open at 4 p.m.
Sunday's game time is 2 p.m. Gates open at 1 p.m.
The ticket office opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and noon on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased at the Veterans Memorial Stadium box office, by phone at 896-7560 or online at www.kernels.com.
