BELOIT, Wis. - The game started an hour late, but the Beloit Snappers wasted no time in scoring en route to a 3-0 victory over the Battle Creek Yankees in the first game of a Midwest League double-header Saturday night at Pohlman Field. The Snappers scored twice in the first inning and once in the second, and that was enough for their seventh straight victory. The second game was postponed by a between-games shower and rescheduled as part of a Sunday afternoon double-header.

Battle Creek centerfielder Melky Cabrera ripped a pair of doubles to extend his hitting streak to 17 games. He has reached base in 29 straight games- the longest consecutive-game on-base streak in the league this season. Willie Vasquez also doubled for the Yankees, who dropped their third straight game. Eric Duncan had a single for the Yankees' only other hit in the scheduled seven-inning game.

The series opener Thursday night was delayed 1 hour 45 minutes, and Friday night¹s game was rained out. Rain again delayed the start of Saturday night¹s double-header. The series, weather permitting, wraps up with Sunday afternoon¹s double-header, with the first game scheduled to start at 2 p.m. EDT.
