Last week, the Wheeling Nailers built off of their success against the South Division, taking home two wins in three games against the North Division's Toledo Walleye and Cincinnati Cyclones. Offensively, Cody Sylvester posted stellar numbers, while doing so in the clutch, as he recorded five goals, one assist, and six points in four games (dating back to Monday), while netting each of the team's last three game winning goals. Sylvester now leads Wheeling in goals (11), game winning goals (5), and shorthanded goals (2). That performance earned him ECHL Player of the Week. On the back end, Mike Condon and Peter Mannino both earned victories in goal, combining to stop 106 of the 112 shots they faced in the last four games.

On Friday night, the Nailers were in search of revenge against the Toledo Walleye, after a 7-0 thumping took place on January 12th. Myles Harvey and Cody Sylvester got the visitors off to a strong start, scoring a pair of goals in the first period. Sylvester added his second goal of the night in the middle frame, before Chaz Johnson capped the scoring in a 4-1 Wheeling victory. Mike Condon made 26 saves for his 13th win of the season. On Saturday night, the Cincinnati Cyclones jumped out to a 2-0 lead, thanks to two goals in 1:55 by Josh Shalla. Barry Goers brought the Nailers within one, but Cincinnati had the final say, completing a 3-for-6 night on the power play, with two markers in the third. Pittsburgh native Rob Madore was the winning goalie with 25 saves. On Sunday afternoon, Wheeling got back at the Cyclones with a powerful third period. Jacob Lagace and Shalla exchanged goals in the first, and the game stayed tied at one until the 6:20 mark of the third, when Sylvester put the Nailers on top. Max MacKay added an empty net goal for insurance, while Peter Mannino stopped 22 of 23 shots in his Wheeling debut. The Nailers and Cyclones have now played eight of the 12 games in their season series, which has been completely even in wins (4), points (9), and goals (19).

This Week

Wed. 1/29 Fort Wayne Komets @ WHEELING NAILERS, 7:00

Fri. 1/31 Kalamazoo Wings @ WHEELING NAILERS, 7:00

Sat. 2/1 Kalamazoo Wings @ WHEELING NAILERS, 8:00

This week, the Wheeling Nailers will play host to a pair of teams who make their lone visits of the season to WesBanco Arena. On Wednesday night, former Nailer Jordon Southorn brings his Fort Wayne Komets to town, after the Komets won two of three games in Elmira over the weekend. Fort Wayne is currently on the outside of the top-eight in the Eastern Conference, trailing the Nailers by two points. Wheeling has won both games in the season series, defeating the Komets 6-2 and 5-4 at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in November. On Friday and Saturday, the Nailers will conclude their fifth of 12 season series in 2013-14, when they play a pair of games against the Kalamazoo Wings. The Wings defeated Wheeling 3-2 in a shootout on November 6th in Kalamazoo, and they currently hold a three-point lead over the Nailers in the Eastern Conference Standings. Wheeling is 4-0-1 in its last five regular season games against Kalamazoo.
