Wheat Kings with Impressive Teddy Bear Toss Win
December 13, 2019 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings certainly closed out their pre-Christmas home schedule in fine fashion Friday night.
The Wheat Kings struck for five first period goals and cruised to an impressive 11-1 victory over the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors before close to 4,500 Teddy Bear Toss crazed fans at Westoba Place.
Center Ridly Greig opened the scoring at the 2:59 mark of the first period - setting the scene for an avalanche of stuffed animals, toques and mittens to hit the ice below - and the Wheat Kings never looked back.
Former Warrior Luka Burzan led the winners with three goals and six points while Greig finished the night with two goals and an assist.
Cole Reinhardt continued his torrid pace of late with a pair of goals while singles came off the sticks of Ben MCartney, Lynden McCallum, Jonny Lambos and Finish forward Marcus Kallionkieli, with his first ever Western Hockey League goal. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect added two assists in what was his second game of the season.
Tate Popple scored in a losing cause for the Warriors, who trailed 5-0 and 8-1 at the period breaks.
With the win, the Wheat Kings moved to within a game of the .500 mark at 14-15-1-2.
All donations collected from the ice on Friday night goes to the Local Christmas Cheer Board and besides making winners of a number of deserving western Manitoba families, the Wheat Kings sent home fans with a lot of extras from this one.
By scoring three powerplay goals - all coming in the first period - fans will receive a "free" regular order of fries at any Brandon McDonalds location on Saturday.
As a result of their eleven goal outburst, online pizza orders at Dominos will be 50% off on Saturday, fans can display their ticket stub for six cents off a litre of fuel at Heritage Co-op locations and those in attendance will have one full week to save $7 off any Dinner Buffet at Aaltos in the Canad Inns.
The Wheat Kings, who will close out their pre-Christmas schedule Tuesday night in Winnipeg, will open up their unofficial second half of the 2019-20 schedule on Friday, December 27th against the ICE.
Tickets to all remaining home games go back on sale Saturday morning at the Keystone Centre box office. Fans can also call (204) 726-3555 or go online at keystonecentre.com
