Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Prince Albert, SK - The Prince Albert Raiders (20-7-3-1) scored twice in the first period and didn't look back as they beat the Winnipeg ICE (18-12-1-0) 3-1 at the Art Hauser Centre on Friday night.
Ozzy Wiesblatt had a goal and an assist in the win for the Raiders. Justin Nachbaur and Spencer Moe also scored. The Raiders were wearing their special Ugly Christmas Sweater jerseys on Friday night.
The Raiders jumped out to an early lead on Wiesblatt's 14th goal of the season. Brayden Watts found the 2020 NHL Draft prospect with a backdoor pass and Wiesblatt tapped in the goal at the 1:35 mark of the opening frame.
Later in the frame, Nachbaur gave the Raiders a 2-0 lead with a power-play marker. Nolan Allan fired a shot from the point. As he was getting checked in the slot, Nachbaur redirected the shot past Liam Hughes from the top of the slot with 3:05 to play in the opening period for his fourth goal of the season.
Shortly after the goal, Nachbaur and Jackson Leppard exchanged some punches in front of the benches that resulted in both players receiving 10-minute misconducts.
Nachbaur also was given an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, giving the ICE a power play. On the ensuing man advantage, the ICE tipped a shot on the Raiders' goal. Carter Serhyenko got his pad on it, however Owen Pederson banged home the rebound to make it a 2-1 game with 2:06 left in the first.
The Raiders came within inches of extending the lead in the second period. Jakob Brook turned the corner on his defender and put a shot on goal. Hughes got a piece of the shot and the puck trickled towards the net, but slid to the outside of the right post at the last second.
In the third, Moe put the game away with a late power-play goal. Landon Kosior's point shot was tipped by Moe who was standing at the top of the crease and got enough on it to get it through Hughes for his 14th of the year to wrap up the scoring at 3-1.
Serhyenko had another strong outing between the pipes for the Raiders. He made 24 saves for his fifth win of the year. Hughes turned aside 24 shots in the loss for the ICE.
The Raiders play one more home game before the holiday break on Saturday night when the Kamloops Blazers (20-9-2-1) visit the Art Hauser Centre. Saturday night is also our annual Teddy Bear Toss Presented By Canadian Tire. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
Tickets for Saturday are available at the Raiders box office and at raiderhockey.com.
The Raiders wrap up their schedule before the holiday break on Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon against the Blades (14-15-1-2). Game time is 4 p.m. Head to The Rock And Iron Sports Bar to watch the game, or listen on 900 CKBI with Trevor Redden.
