Blazers Burn Blades in Third Period

Saskatoon Blades News Release

Saskatoon, SK - A strong start by the Blades was hampered by a poor finish which saw Saskatoon on the wrong end of a 5-2 game against the Kamloops Blazers on Friday night.

Saskatoon local Alex Morozoff scored in his first game as a member of the Blades after arriving from Seattle on Wednesday, while sophomore forward Tristen Robins notched an assist for points in back-to-back games along with Captain Chase Wouters.

The Bridge City Bunch begun their evening with a hardy effort, denying the Blazers a shot on net for the first five minutes of the game. However, Kamloops found themselves on the scoreboard first courtesy of an unfortunate bounce off of a Blades player's stick which snuck past Nolan Maier.

Saskatoon would get a five on three with just under five minutes to go in the opening frame, with the best chance coming off of a Nolan Kneen one-timer, but the Blades were unable to solve the Blazers' Saskatoon-born netminder Rayce Ramsay and 1-0 after the first period.

A very even second period saw both sides get a goal. The Blades were able to breakthrough on an odd man rush as Robins beat his man inside and slid the puck to Morozoff in the goal crease for his first goal in his first game as a Blade. For all that, Kamloops would reply just under three minutes later off the stick of another Saskatoon product, Connor Zary, who notched his 20th of the season on a mini-breakaway and giving the Blazers their one goal lead back.

Saskatoon begun the third on the power play but were unable to convert. Instead Kamloops took the momentum and rallied off the next three goals to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Saskatoon were able to add a late goal as Zach Huber scored a highlight reel goal with a fantastic individual to beat his man wide, carry the puck through the crease and tucking the biscuit home for his tenth goal of the season just moments before the game ended 5-2 Blazers.

The Blades' final game of the first half of the season is this Sunday at SaskTel Centre against the Prince Albert Raiders for the PCL Construction Teddy Bear Toss. Puck drop is at 4:00pm.

Bring a bear to throw on the ice for the Blades' first goal of the game, with all bears collected off the ice going to local charities.

Fans should also remember to bring skates for the game as it's also a Mosaic Family Skate Day. Skate with the Blades, take photos & get autographs before saying goodbye for the Holiday Break.
