Westchester Misses Oomph in Loss to Energy

January 12, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release

DES MOINES - It was a tough night on the road for the Westchester Knicks (14-8), the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, as they fell 111-90 to the Iowa Energy (10-10), the Memphis Grizzlies' affiliate.

Everything went right for Iowa in the first quarter as the Energy took off on a 22-5 run to start the game. Shooting almost 62 percent off 13-of-21 from the field, Iowa hit 6-of-8 shots from downtown and ran up the score to a 22-point lead over Westchester. The sole bright spot for the Knicks was from the free throw line as they went 5-for-5, but the visitors were only able to muster 14 total points in the quarter.

Though the Energy started off the second by running up a 26-point lead over Westchester, the Knicks found a needed spark in part off of 16 points from the Knicks bench. Going on a few short runs late in the quarter, Westchester worked its way to a single-digit deficit and headed into the second half trailing by just 10 points.

The fire was short-lived for the Knicks as the Energy quickly took back a double-digits lead, going on an 8-0 run in the third. Westchester would not make a shot until Kevin Capers sank a three over four minutes into the quarter as Iowa regained a massive lead, at one point by as many as 26 points.

Iowa's substantial lead would prove to be too much for Westchester to overcome, as the fourth quarter proved to be fairly even for both teams. The Knicks closed out the 111-90 loss hitting just 31-of-86 from the field, and 5-of-22 from beyond the arc while the Energy finished the game on an even 50 percent on shooting.

Westchester's bench combined for 43 of the Knicks' 90 points, with Kevin Capers supplying 13 points and Sean Marshall adding 11. Jordan Bachynski tied the high score for the second game in a row, finishing with 13 points, seven rebounds, and knocking down three blocked shots. Jimmer Fredette had 12 points with four assists, with Travis Trice II rounding out the double-digit scorers with 11.

Iowa's Andrew Harrison led all scorers with 18 points, also adding six rebounds and four assists. Mardracus Wade and Maxi Esho each finished with 15 points in the win while Alex Stepheson captured the game's sole double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Westchester Knicks continue on their four-game road-trip, stopping next in Erie to take on the BayHawks, the Orlando Magic's affiliate, for a 7:00 p.m. ET match-up on Friday, Jan. 15, 2016. The game will be broadcast live on MSG and the NBA Development League's YouTube channel.
