Oklahoma City Blue News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Blue came back to edge the Texas Legends, 117-116, in the final seconds on Tuesday at the Cox Convention Center.
The Blue trailed by as many as 12 points in the final quarter before a 9-0 run cut Texas' lead to single digits at the six minute mark. The two teams exchanged buckets for the next four minutes before the Blue took its first lead of the period on a second-chance lay-up by Tomislav Zubcic, making his home debut for OKC.
Talib Zanna pushed the Blue ahead by two with 31.7 seconds remaining but Texas' Jamil Wilson responded with a 25-foot three pointer to re-take the lead. Oklahoma City responded with a drive from Dez Wells that resulted in a foul and two free throws - both of which Wells sunk to put the Blue on top with 10.8 seconds to play. Wilson missed a pair of shots on the Legends' final possession, capped with a game-sealing defensive board by Zanna.
Seven Oklahoma City players scored in double figures, led by Zanna with 19 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Marquis Teague scored 18 points and dished eight assists and Wells added 17 points. Dakari Johnson tallied 16 points with seven boards and JP Tokoto produced 15 points. Mustapha Farrakhan and Zubcic scored 13 and 10 points respectively off the bench.
"Great effort tonight," said Blue Head Coach Mark Daigneault. "I thought we won it with our defense. We didn't play great defense for a majority of the game and then when the game is in the balance our defense elevated us. It allowed us to get out on the break and we were able to come out with a close win."
Oklahoma City (6-15) distributed 23 assists while shooting a season-high 51.3 percent from the field.
Texas (10-9) was led by Tu Holloway with 24 points.
The Blue continues a stretch of games where 10 of 11 contests are played on the road, embarking on a four game road trip that begins on Friday in Bakersfield, California. The Blue and Jam square off at 9 p.m. CT on YouTube. For more information, visit OklahomaCityBlue.com.
