Sioux Falls Skyforce forward Keith Benson scored 24 points to lead his club to a 102-101 victory over Raptors 905 Tuesday evening at Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The two clubs mostly traded baskets for the first half of the opening quarter before Sioux Falls went on a 13-2 run over a three-minute span near the end of the first frame to gain a 15-point lead at that stage of the game. The Skyforce didn't look back from there, extending its lead to as many as 17 midway through the second quarter and carrying a 62-50 advantage into halftime.
Raptors 905 came out strong in the third quarter, clawing its way back to a tie game, 75-75, with three minutes to play in that period. The Mississauga club couldn't regain the lead, however, falling behind again by seven by the end of the third quarter. Raptors 905 managed to narrow the gap back to one point early in the fourth quarter, only to fall behind once again by 11, before going on a 10-0 run in the final three minutes to make it a one-point final score.
In addition to Benson's 24 points, the Skyforce was also led offensively by Tre Kelley (20), Rodney McGruder (18), Jabril Trawick (15) and Bubu Palo (11). Palo added a game-high eight assists. For Raptors 905, Ronald Roberts Jr. finished with 26 points and nine rebounds - both game-highs - and was joined in double-digit points by Scott Suggs (19), Shannon Scott (17), Axel Toupane (15) and Melvin Johnson III (12).
Sioux Falls led Raptors 905 in field goal percentage (46.8-42.2), free throw percentage (93.3-91.7), points in the paint (56-46) and fast-break points (26-18), while Raptors 905 led in three-point percentage (60.0-11.8) and second-chance points (15-14).
Raptors 905 is back in action Friday, January 15 when the club visits the Delaware 87ers at 7 p.m.
