The West Virginia Power shutout the Hagerstown Suns 7-0 Saturday at Appalachian Power Park. The Power scored three in the fifth and four in the sixth to account for all the scoring, and utilized three pitchers to hold the Suns scoreless.

Starters Jason Erickson and Paul Demny matched zeros over the first four innings, but took very different routes to do so. The Power's Erickson allowed at least one baserunner by hit, walk, or team error in each the first five frames, while the Suns' Demny threw four and two thirds innings of perfect ball to keep the game scoreless.

With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Ramon Cabrera singled to left to break up the perfect game. David Rubinstein and Andy Vasquez each followed with a single; the latter scoring Cabrera for a 1-0 Power lead. With Rubinstein on third, Demny was called for a balk that brought home the second run. Bengie Gonzalez then popped a ball up on the infield, but second baseman Mills Rogers dropped the ball, allowing Vasquez to score foe a 3-0 Power edge.

West Virginia scored four in the sixth in three hits and two walks against Suns reliever Shane Erb, keyed by a Jose Hernandez single with one out and a Vasquez triple that brought home a pair.

Gabriel Alvarado pitched the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings for the Power, and allowed a lone baserunner via a walk, although that was erased on one of three defensive double plays in the game for West Virginia. Marc Baca pitched the ninth to complete the eight Power shutout of the season and second of the homestand. West Virginia shutout Rome by a 3-0 final earlier this week.

Erickson (8-6) pitched five innings and benefited from the fifth inning offense with a victory. Demny (6-10) was charged with the loss after surrendering just three hits and three runs, two of which were earned. Cabrera led all players with three hits, while Vasquez finished with three runs batted in.

The Power and Suns played the second to last game of the season on Sunday at Appalachian Power Park. The contest is scheduled for 2:05 pm, while Monday's game season finale is slated for 1:05 pm.
