Hickory Crawdads News Release

The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Greenville Drive, 10-2, before 4,991 fans at Fluor Field on Saturday night.

After the Drive (77-60, 41-26) struck first against RHP Matt Thompson (9-9) with three runs in the bottom of the second, 2B Edwin Garcia got the Crawdads (73-64, 33-34) on the board with a solo home run to open the third inning against Greenville RHP Chris Balcom-Miller (7-7). However, Drive 3B Michael Almanzar countered with a solo shot of his own in the bottom of the third, stretching it back to a three-run lead, 4-1.

Greenville then opened the gap further with five tallies in the bottom of the fourth, riding a two-run single by RF Jeremy Hazelbaker and a three-run homer by 1B Reynaldo Rodriguez to take a 9-1 lead. Hickory chipped away when RF Guillermo Pimentel scored on a wild pitch in the fifth, but Rodriguez went yard again with a solo shot in the sixth to account for the 10-2 final score in the Greenville win.

Thompson was tagged with the loss, while Balcom-Miller registered the win for Greenville.
