Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - Julio Rodriguez, Ebelin Lugo, and Josh Zeid combined to two-hit the Kannapolis Intimidators Saturday night in a 3-0 Lakewood win.
The Claws have now won four in a row and nine of their last 11.
Rodriguez (5-1) was brilliant through six innings, giving up just two hits and striking out 11. Lugo threw a hitless inning, and Zeid chipped in the last six outs picking up his eighth save of the season and his first since May 23rd.
The BlueClaws opened the scoring in the fourth. Stephen Batts walked, and Anthony Hewitt reached on an errant throw by third baseman Jake Oester. Hewitt was then picked off first by starter Matt Wickswat, but took off for second and made it in safely, giving Batts enough time to steal home. Hewitt was the caught trying to go to third but the Claws took a 1-0 lead.
In the fifth Jonathan Singleton walked with two outs, took second on a wild pitch, and scored on a Leandro Castro RBI single.
Lakewood extended the lead to 3-0 in the sixth. Jeremy Barnes hit a leadoff double, and one out later Hewitt doubled him in.
Wickswat (7-7) let up three runs (two earned) in six innings, taking the loss.
Sunday at 7:05 pm RHP Brody Colvin will get his last start before the playoffs against league wins leader RHP Cameron Bayne.
