Lexington Legends News Release
Lexington pitchers Jose Cisnero and Brenden Stines combined to shut out the Rome Braves 6-0 Saturday night at Applebee's Park.
Cisnero worked the first six innings. He allowed four hits, walked four and struck out three in his final start of the season to improve his record to 8-6. Stines pitched the last three innings and picked up his second save. He gave up three hits, struck out two and walked none.
Lexington opened the scoring in the first inning. Jimmy Paredes led off with a single to left field, then stole second, his 50th steal of the year. He advanced to third on a sacrifice fly by Jiovanni Mier and scored when Jake Goebbert doubled to center.
The Legends added three runs in the third inning. Paredes led off with his eighth home run of the year. Mier reached second when his grounder got past third baseman Joe Terdoslavich for an error, one of five the Braves committed. Mier scored on an error by shortstop Edward Salcedo on a ball hit by Goebbert. Goebbert was thrown out trying to advance to second. Hinze followed with his 18th home run of the year, a blast off the scoreboard in right center that would have carried well over 400 feet.
The Legends added another run in the sixth. Roberto Pena reached first when Salcedo committed his third error of the game. Pena moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Miguel Arrendell, to third on a ground out to second by Brian Kemp, and scored on a base hit by Grant Hogue, giving Lexington a 5-0 advantage.
Arodys Vizcaino (9-4) started for the Braves and was charged with the loss, allowing one run on two hits. Vizcaino, who was rated as the 69th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America, left the game in the second inning with an apparent arm injury.
With two games left in the regular season, Goebbert and Hinze are threatening the Legends' single-season RBI record of 96, set by Jon Topolski in 2001. Goebbert has 95 RBI, Hinze 94. Chris Dominguez of Augusta leads the South Atlantic League with 98.
With the win Saturday, the Legends moved one game over the .500 mark at 68-67 for the season. The series, now even at one win apiece, resumes Sunday afternoon at Applebee's Park. Zach Grimmett (5-3) gets the nod for Lexington, matching up against Aaron Northcraft (1-2) of the Braves. Game time is 2:05 p.m. The Legends close out the 2010 season against Rome Monday night.
