POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lakewood 11-5 on Friday night. Andy Vasquez and Dan Grovatt hit solo home runs in the first and second innings, respectively, to give the Power an early edge. The BlueClaws battled back tying the game at four after four and a half and five after five and a half. West Virginia quickly regained the lead each time, and distanced themselves with a four run eight to seal the win. Vasquez had four hits and two runs batted in, while Justin Howard went 3-4 with two runs driven home.
ON THE SPOT: Eliecer Navarro became the tenth different starting pitcher used this season by the Power. West Virginia has used seven players as full-fledged members of the rotation, and four in spot roles, including Navarro. Tonight's starter, Zac Fuesser, made two spot starts and before entering the rotation in late June.
WALDRON THE MARAUDER: Tyler Waldron was promoted to Bradenton after last night's game. Waldron went 7-6 with a 4.82 earned run average for the Power this season after going 4-7 with a 3.90 ERA for State College last year. The right-hnader was drafted in the fifth round in 2010 out of Oregon State.
LONG TIME COMING: Andy Vasquez's first inning home run last night was his first since May 14 against Kannapolis. The utility player went 210 at bats over 56 games between home runs, but did manage to hit six of his league-best ten triples.
DOUBLE DIGIT DELIGHT: West Virginia's offense amassed 15 last night after knocking around 13 in Thursday's victory. The Power have reached double-digits in runs in both games. The Power's ten runs on Thursday surpassed the total run support for the entire seven-game road trip that the club completed on Tuesday, when West Virginia managed just nine runs total between series in Savannah and Charleston.
TIME TO GET CRACKIN': West Virginia and Lakewood continue their season series this evening. The BlueClaws hold the all-time advantage in this match-up with a 48-39 record against the Power, and West Virginia trails at home with a 23-29 record against Lakewood at Appalachian Power Park. The Power and BlueClaws will meet a total of 19 times this season after playing 16 times last year, including their final series of the season, August 5-8 at FirstEnergy Park.
NO FREE PASSES: West Virginia's pitching staff continues to lead all of baseball with the fewest number of batters walked this year. Power pitchers have combined to walk 227 batters through 102 games. The lowest team total in club history is 346 during the 2010 season. The league's record low over a 140 game season is 314 by Augusta in 2001.
VERGE OF HISTORY: Rogelio Noris has 24 career home runs for West Virginia over a season and a half in a Power jersey. Noris has matched Stephen Chapman for the most home runs in any player's Power career. Chapman hit a single-season record 24 home runs in a Power uniform in 2007.
POWER POINTS: Rogelio Noris has an eight-game hitting streak going into his next game... Colton Cain was added back to the Power roster on Friday and made his first relief appearance of the season...
