STAT OF THE NIGHT: The Shorebirds will go for their first three-game win streak tonight since June 4 through 6. The Shorebirds have not won more than two games in a row during the second half of the year. The âBirds season high win streak is 11.
PREVIEW: The Delmarva Shorebirds look to lock away the series in game three against the Suns. The Shorebirds scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Hagerstown 8-7 last night. The Shorebirds have won the first two games of a series for the first time since beating West Virginia on June 5 and 6. With 36 games left in the season, the âBirds are seven games back of first place Hickory.
CLOSE CALLS: The last eight Shorebirds games have been decided by three runs or less. They have played five one-run games in the last eight. The last eight games have been decided by a total of 12 runs. The Shorebirds have 19 one-run wins this season, third most in the SAL.
HORNBACK COMING ALONG: Riley Hornback has hit safely in three straight games, his longest stretch of the year. In his last three games played, he has four hits, four runs, an RBI and four walks.
WALTERS TIED FOR 4TH IN SINGLE SEASON: David Walters locked up his 25th save of the season last night to tie Rommie Lewis (2002) for fourth all-time in single-season franchise history. Derek Brown (1998) holds the single-season record with 33 saves. Walters is one save shy of tying Jayme Sperring (2001) for third all-time. Mick Mattaliano (2008) ranks second all-time with 27 saves.
15 STRAIGHT HOME GAMES: Garabez Rosa has hit safely in 15 straight home games (24-58, .414), third longest streak in the SAL this season.
FINAL 36 VS. NORTH: The Shorebirds final 36 games are all against teams in the Northern Division. The Shorebirds have six more games against Hagerstown, 12 more against Lakewood, four against Kannapolis, five against Greensboro and nine against West Virginia.
