Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

CHARLESTON, WV- It looked like the Lakewood BlueClaws were in danger of dropping their 3rd straight game to the West Virginia Power. Instead it turned out to be a very nice come from behind 1 run win in extra innings with a final score of 5-4. The BlueClaws scored 5 runs on just 5 hits as they were actually out hit 9-5 in the game.

The bullpen was the story of the game for Lakewood as they tossed 5 innings of shutout ball. Tyler Knigge and Colby Shreve were fantastic in relief of Blueclaws starter Ervis Manznillo. Manzanillo departed after throwing 5 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits. Lakewood was trailing 4-3 when he left. Tyler Knigge then tossed 2 shutout innings allowing no hits and 1 walk before turning it over to Colby Shreve. He was very impressive striking out 2 over 3 shutout innings and allowing just 1 hit.

Lakewood tied it in the 8th on a RBI Sac Fly by Geancarlo Mendez that scored pinch runner Miguel Alvarez. Fast forward to the 10th, Alvarez led it off with a ground out to 2B. Then Edgar Duran walked to put the go ahead run on base. Jeff Lanning made his first plate appearance of the game count as he doubled down the RF line and scored Edgar Duran. Shreve pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the 10th inning to close it out and make Lakewood winners 5-4.

The BlueClaws will try to salvage a split of the 4 game series on Sunday in the final game of the series. Lakewood will send out LHP Mario Hollands (6-6, 4.54 ERA) who makes the spot start in place of the recently promoted David Buchanan. The Power will counter with RHP Zach Von Rosenberg (4-7, 6.65 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 2:05 pm on Sunday.
