The West Virginia Power fell 5-4 in ten innings to the Lakewood BlueClaws Saturday evening. The Power were ahead early, but Lakewood battled back bit by bit to take the 5-4 extra inning victory.

Lakewood opened the scoring early with two runs in the first inning. Geancarlo Mendez walked and scored on a double by Zach Collier. Collier scored on a Jim Murphy single to give the 'Claws an early 2-0 lead.

West Virginia responded early with three runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Drew Maggi led off the half inning drawing a walk. Dan Grovatt followed with a single and then a walk to Mel Rojas. Jr. loaded the bases with no outs. Cole White hit a two run single into right centerfield scoring Maggi and Grovatt. Rojas Jr. came across to score on a Kawika Emsley-Pai double putting the Power ahead 3-2.

The Power added a fourth run in the second to boost their lead to 4-2. After singling and moving to second on a wild pitch, Maggi scored the fourth run on a single from Grovatt.

The BlueClaws would shrink the Power lead with a run in the top of the fifth inning. Anthony Hewitt led off with a single and then stole second base. After reaching third on a ground out, Hewitt scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Edgar Duran.

Zac Fuesser, the starter for West Virginia, pitched five innings allowing three runs on three hits and struck out four. Fuesser left the game with a 4-3 Power lead, but didn't factor in the decision.

Lakewood tied the game 4-4 with a single run in the top of the eighth inning. Cameron Rupp was hit by a pitch to begin the frame. Rupp scored on a sacrifice fly by Geancarlo Mendez to knot up the score.

The tie forced extra innings, but the bonus baseball was brief as Lakewood scored the decisive winning run in the top of the tenth inning. After Edgar Duran reached on a walk, Mendez shot a double into deep right centerfield that scored Duran and put the BlueClaws up 5-4. The Power weren't able to battle back and were shut down in order in the bottom half of the tenth.

Colby Shreve (5-5) picked up the win for the BlueClaws with three innings of relief. Shreve didn't allow any runs and only gave up one hit while striking out three batters.

Jason Townsend (0-1) took the loss for the Power with one inning of relief work. Townsend allowed the winning run to score on the one hit he gave up.

The Power and the 'Claws close their four game series with an afternoon match up at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday. Zack Von Rosenberg (4-7) takes the mound for West Virginia against Lakewood lefty Mario Hollands (6-6).
