Lexington Legends News Release
The West Virginia Power overcame an early 4-0 deficit to defeat the Lexington Legends 5-4 on Friday night in front of 6,815 fans. The Legends put four runs on the board in the second. Back-to-back doubles by Mike Kvasnicka and Emilio King produced one run. Tyler Burnett's single scored King, and Burnett advanced to second on an error by left fielder Rogelio Noris. Two outs later, with Burnett on at second, Delino DeShields Jr. hit his fifth home run of the year to give the Legends a 4-0 lead.
West Virginia tied the game in the fourth. Dan Grovatt led off the inning with a walk. After Justin Howard popped out, Kawika Emsley-Pai and Elias Diaz drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Noris struck out, but Andy Vasquez singled to center to drive in two runs, and advanced to second on the throw back to the infield. Eric Avila walked to load the bases, and Drew Maggi capped the inning with a two-run single to left field, tying the game at 4-4.
The Power broke the tie in the fifth. Grovatt led off the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a passed ball. Howard's groundout moved Grovatt to third, from where he scored on Emsley-Pai's single to give the Power the 5-4 advantage.
West Virginia starter Jameson Taillon (2-1), the second overall pick in the 2010 draft, worked the first five innings to get the win. Relievers Casey Sadler, who pitched three innings, and Jason Townsend shut the Legends out the rest of the way.
Legends reliever Jason Chowning (1-2) took the loss, though he allowed only one unearned run in three and one-third innings. Starter Mike Foltynewicz, the 19th overall pick in 2010, went three and two-thirds innings, allowing four runs on five hits. It was the second time Taillon and Foltynewicz have faced each other this season. Foltynewicz got the win in a 4-2 Lexington victory May 18.
The Power have taken two of three in the series, which concludes Saturday night. First pitch at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
