SAVANNAH, GA - Three Savannah pitchers combined to strikeout out 13 Kannapolis Intimidators to pace the Gnats in a 3-1 win Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The Gnats (30-24) have won 11 of their last 13 games and are 5-1 on the current home stand.

With losses by both the Greenville Drive and the Lexington Legends, the Gnats now own a four and a half game lead for first place in the South Atlantic League Southern division, their largest of 2011, with 15 games to play in the half.

The Gnats struck first in the bottom of the first inning. CF Darrell Ceciliani was hit by a pitch, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Cory Vaughn then lined a sharp single into right field to bring home Ceciliani for a 1-0 Gnats lead.

Savannah added two runs in the third inning thanks to a pair of wild pitches from Kannapolis starter Dexter Carter, who was charged with his second loss in his second start of the year for Kannapolis. The 3-0 lead was more than enough for the Savannah pitching staff Friday.

Gnats' starter Chase Huchingson held the Intimidators (28-25) scoreless through the first five innings to earn his third win of the year. Huchingson struck out seven, walked two, and gave up just one hit.

The Intimidators scored their only run on an unearned run in the eighth inning against reliever Hamilton Bennett in the eighth inning. Bennett worked the final three innings, fanning four to pick up his third save of 2011.

The Gnats finish their seven-game home stand by starting RHP Gonzalez Germen (4-1, 3.22) against Kannapolis RHP Paul Burnside (4-2, 3.29) Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 pm and gates open at 5 pm. The pre-game show on News/Talk 630 and sandgnats.com begins at 5:50 pm.
