Crawdads crush Shorebirds, 18-6

SALISBURY, MD - The Hickory Crawdads scored a season-high 18 runs on a season-high 20 hits in the 18-6 victory against the Delmarva Shorebirds, before 5,987 fans at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night.

Trailing, 5-2, through the first two innings, the Crawdads (29-25) came racing back with six straight runs in the third and fourth innings. In both frames, DH Tomas Telis hit a two-run double and then came in on an RBI double by RF Josh Richmond, accounting for the six tallies and putting Hickory in front, 8-5.

After the Shorebirds (29-26) plated a run in the bottom of the fourth against RHP Roman Mendez, the Crawdads came right back with a season-high seven runs in the top of the fifth. With two on and no outs, CF Teodoro Martinez brought in the first run of the frame with an RBI single. SS Jurickson Profar then walked to load the bases, before 2B Odubel Herrera belted a bases-clearing, three-run triple to right field. Telis followed with an RBI single, his fifth RBI of the game, and then 1B Jhonny Gomezy hit a two-run double later in the inning to cap the huge frame and make it 15-6.

The Crawdads kept swinging away with an RBI triple by Martinez and an RBI double by Profar in the sixth, and then an RBI single by Profar in the seventh to account for the eventual 18-6 final score.

RHP Ben Henry (W, 1-0) took over to start the fifth inning and dealt four scoreless frames to pick up the win for Hickory. RHP Nick McBride closed the game with a scoreless ninth. Delmarva starter RHP Scott Copeland (L, 4-4) was tagged with the loss.
