
Crawdads Pound Shorebirds 18-6 In Game Three

Salisbury, Md. - The Hickory Crawdads (29-25) scored runs in six straight innings including seven in the fifth inning to sprint past the Shorebirds (29-26) 18-6 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Friday night. The 18 runs allowed are the most since June 6, 2005 when the Lake County Captains defeated the Shorebirds 18-6.
The Shorebirds led twice in the early going. Mikey Planeta and Jonathan Schoop hit back-to-back singles in the first inning. Then, Ty Kelly walked to load the bases. Mike Flacco was hit by a Roman Mendez pitch to force in the first run. Kieron Pope followed with a single through the left side of the infield to give the âBirds a 2-0 lead.
After Hickory scored two runs to tie the game in the top of the second, Delmarva added three more runs in the bottom of the second. Brenden Webb walked and stole second base. With one out, Schoop hit an RBI single to score Webb. -Later in the inning, Pope hit a line drive double to the wall in left field to plate Schoop and Flacco.
The Crawdads responded with three runs in the third tie the game and three more runs in the fourth to build a 8-5 lead.
Pope recorded his fourth RBI of the night in the bottom of the fourth to trim the deficit to 8-6.
In the fifth, the Crawdads scored seven runs on four hits to take a 15-6 lead. Odubel Herrera hit a three-run triple towards the right field corner to cap off the big inning.
The Crawdads plated two more runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh to take an 18-6 lead.
Crawdads reliever Ben Henry earned his first win of the season in four innings. He allowed two hits and no runs. Shorebirds starter Scott Copeland was tagged with the loss in 3.2 innings pitched. He allowed ten hits and seven earned runs.
Pope and Schoop accounted for seven of the ten total Shorebirds hits. Schoop went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a double while Pope went 3-for-5 with four RBIs.
