West Virginia Falls to Kannapolis 4-0

HIGHLIGHTS: The West Virginia Power lost 4-0 to the Kannapolis Intimidators Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park. Three Intimidator pitchers combine to blank the Power on three hits while striking out 15.

Kannapolis took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on Nick Ciolli's third home run of the season. The Intimidators added two runs against Power starter Melkin Laureano in the sixth, and closed out the scoring in the ninth on a solo home run by Jose Vargas.

Matt Wickswat (3-3) held the West Virginia bats in check over the first six innings, surrendering only two hits and striking out ten. Orlando Santos and Garrett Johnson combined to strike out five as Kannapolis pitching recorded 15 strikeouts in a game for the second time this series.

Laureano (2-2) took the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits. Bengie Gonzalez snapped an 0-22 drought with two base hits. The Power offense was shut out for the fourth time this season and was held to a season low three hits for the fourth time. Vargas keyed Kannapolis with two extra base hits and three runs batted in.

The Power and Intimidators close out the season series on tomorrow night at Appalachian Power Park. The first pitch is slated for 7:05 on a Belly Buster Monday and will see Hunter Strickland start for West Virginia against Kannapolis' Justin Collop.
