
Paredes, Hall Lead March Over Delmarva

SALISBURY, Md. - Jimmy Paredes went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases and two runs scored, while Shaeffer Hall surrendered just one run in 6.2 innings, as the Charleston RiverDogs downed the Delmarva Shorebirds, 5-3, in South Atlantic League action at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium Sunday afternoon.
With the victory, Charleston improves to 14-17, while the Shorebirds are 16-14 after the defeat.
Charleston scored in the first inning for the third game in a row, as Paredes came plateward on Luke Murton's RBI groundout for a 1-0 lead.
Kyle Higashioka doubled off starter Tony Butler to start the second and then came home on DeAngelo Mack's RBI two-bagger into the right-field corner upping the advantage to 2-0.
The RiverDogs knocked four hits in the sixth inning to nab a 4-0 lead. Paredes singled, stole second, and scored on Justin Milo's RBI single. Milo then came home on Higashioka's RBI double to deep centerfield.
Delmarva finally broke through with a run in the sixth against Shaeffer Hall via two-out RBI single by Ty Kelly cutting the score to 4-1.
Mack increased the lead to 5-1 by knocking his second RBI of the contest with a single to centerfield in the eighth off of reliever Brent Allar.
After Ryan Acosta worked 1.1 scoreless, Ben Watkins entered for the RiverDogs in the ninth and allowed a RBI groundout to T.J. Baxter and a RBI single to Garabez Rosa for a 5-3 score, but Gary Helmick flew out to end the contest.
Hall (2-1), who gave up a career-high six runs in his last start at Lakewood, notched a career-high tying seven strikeouts while walking no batters in the triumph. Butler (1-3) absorbed the loss permitting nine hits and four runs in 5.2 innings pitched.
Paredes four singles led Charleston's 13-hit attack, and the Dominican now leads the SAL with 16 stolen bases in 18 attempts. Mack went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Rob Lyerly and Higashioka also had two hits for the RiverDogs.
The fourth and final game of this clip is slated for a 10:30 a.m. start time on Monday morning. Charleston gives the ball to right-hander Graham Stoneburner (1-3, 2.13 ERA), while Delmarva sends right-hander Ryan Berry (0-1, 2.23 ERA) to the hill.
